The Birdcage by Marcia Willett
It was Felix who named it The Birdcage, the tall house in Bristol where Miss Pidgeon lived with her tenant, the beautiful and talented actress Angel, and Angel's daughter, Lizzie. It was Felix whom they all adored and who was so in love with Angel, but while Lizzie longed for a father, Felix had other commitments: to his insecure, possessive wife Marina and to their son Piers, both living at beautiful, mellow Michaelgarth, the family home on the edge of Exmoor. Many years later, when Lizzie comes at last to Michaelgarth and meets Piers for the first time, she finds a family in trouble.
Willett, Marcia: - Born in Somerset, in the west country of England, Marcia Willett was the youngest of five girls. Her family was unconventional and musical, but Marcia chose to train as a ballet dancer. Unfortu nately her body did not develop with the classical proportions demanded by the Royal Ballet, so she studied to be a ballet teacher. Her first husband was a naval officer in the submarine service, with whom she had a son, Charles, now married and a clergyman. Her second husband, Rodney, himself a writer and broadcaster, encouraged Marcia to write novels. Echoes of the Dance is her seventh book to be published in the United States by Thomas Dunne Books; the other six, A Week in Winter, A Summer in the Country, The Children's Hour, The Birdcage, First Friends, and A Friend of the Family, are available wherever books are sold.
