Bitter Fruit by Maureen Honey
A picture of the roles of women during World War II. It collects photographs, essays, fiction and poetry by and about black women from the four leading African American periodicals of the war period: ""Negro Digest"", ""The Crisis"", ""Opportunity"", and ""Negro Story"".
Maureen Honey is a professor of English and women's studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She is co-editor with Venetria K. Patton of Double-Take: A Revisionist Harlem Renaissance Anthology, editor of Bitter Fruit: African American Women in World War II, and author of Creating Rosie the Riveter: Class, Gender, and Propaganda during World War II.
