Presents a compilation of essays written by Black Marquette alumni regarding their unique Marquette experiences. The book is a labour of love - a love of Marquette and the love of the students who proudly attended the university.
A 1979 alumna, Valerie Wilson Reed has spent the last 20 years as a volunteer at Marquette University. In 2001, she became a founding member of the Ethnic Alumni Association (now Black Alumni Association) and served as the EAA's third president from 2004 – 2006. Valerie became a member of the Marquette University National Alumni Board of Directors from 2007 – 2012 and served as the National Alumni Board's president in 2011. In her work, she has recruited numerous students to Marquette, served on the College of Communications Board, mentored for the university's mentoring program, and participated in several panels and speaking engagements. In 2018, Valerie received Marquette's All-University Service to Marquette Award. She is owner of Valcooks LLC, a culinary entertainment and products-oriented business in Illinois.

George Lowery was assistant director in the Educational Opportunity Program at Marquette University in the 1970's and served on the Marquette National Alumni Board of Directors in 2017. George received his master's degree from Marquette in 1980 and pursued his doctoral degree from Harvard University. He is Professor Emeritus at Roosevelt University and resides in Chicago, Illinois.
