Bone Idle by Suzette Hill
Revd Francis Oughterard, vicar of St Botolph's and genteel murderer of parishioner Mrs Elizabeth Fotherington is so far eluding arrest (but with fears of imminent exposure). He is in the grip of his blackmailing pal, the shady Nicholas Ingaza who forces him to steal a valuable figurine of a prancing pig from collector Claude Blenkinsop.
A graduate of the universities of Nottingham and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Suzette A. Hill taught English literature for many years at Reading College before retiring to Herefordshire, where - despite the novel's narrative - she lives convivially with neither cat, dog nor clergyman. Suzette is currently engrossed in her fourth novel.
