Ben Coutts' autobiography is an extraordinary story. He started his working life as a pony-boy in the 1920s and went on to spend more than 60 years on the land, as a shepherd, factor, farmer and stockbreeder. His wartime career was full of danger. In later life he became a broadcaster and show judge, and even stood for Parliament in 1983.
Ben Coutts was well-known as a broadcaster and author. In his time, he was a farm manager, a politician, a judge of Highland Cattle, and an agricultural advisor to the BBC.
