In his early teens, Mehran moves from Karachi, the rainless place of his childhood to London, the rainy city his father has always loved. At the age of twenty-three, he leaves his job in a bank to return to university, where he meets the charismatic Riccarda - nearly ten years older than him, vivacious and enigmatic. Their relationship, which shades from friendship into love, will last a lifetime. Aamer Hussein was born in Karachi in 1955 and moved to London in his teens. He is the author of Insomnia, and the editor of Kahani. He reviews regularly for The Independent, lectures at the University of Southampton and the Institute of English Studies, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. His novel Another Gulmohar Tree was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers' Prize Europe and South Asia 2010.
