Conquest by Hugh Thomas

Drawing on newly discovered sources and writing with brilliance, drama, and profound historical insight, Hugh Thomas presents an engrossing narrative of one of the most significant events of Western history.

Ringing with the fury of two great empires locked in an epic battle, Conquest captures in extraordinary detail the Mexican and Spanish civilizations and offers unprecedented in-depth portraits of the legendary opponents, Montezuma and Cort s. Conquest is an essential work of history from one of our most gifted historians.
Hugh Thomas is the author of many histories, including The Golden Empire; Rivers of Gold, a New York Times Notable Book; The Spanish Civil War, for which he won the Somerset Maugham Award; and A History of the World, for which he won the Arts Council Prize for History. He has also received the Calvo Serer prize in Spain and the Boccacio and Nonino prizes in Italy and was made a Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France and a lord in England. Lord Thomas was educated at Queens' College, Cambridge, and the Sorbonne. He lives in London.
