Richard Dick Claxton Gregory, an African American comedian, civil rights activist, and cultural icon, debuted in the 1950s. He was named one of Comedy Central's 100 Greatest Stand-Ups, and he wrote fourteen books, including the smash classic Nigger: An Autobiography. Gregory is regarded as one of the most cherished comedians of our day. He is a delightfully authentic wisecracker and a passionate campaigner for justice. He has eleven children with his adored wife, Lil.
