Developing Technical Training by Ruth Clark

Since it was first published almost twenty years ago, Developing Technical Training has been a reliable resource for both new and seasoned training specialists. The third edition of this classic book outlines a systematic approach called the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) process that shows how to teach technical content defined as facts, concepts, processes, procedures, and principles. Whether you teach “hard” or “soft” skills, or design lessons for workbooks or computers, you will find the best training methods in this book. Using these techniques, you can create learning environments that will lead to the most efficient and effective acquisition of new knowledge and skills. Throughout the book, Clark defines each content type and illustrates how to implement the best instructional methods for delivery in either print or e-learning media.
Ruth Colvin Clark has focused her career on bridging the gap between academic research and practitioner application in instructional methods. A specialist in instructional design and workforce learning, she holds a doctorate in instructional psychology and served as training manager for Southern California Edison before founding her own company, Clark Training & Consulting. She was president of the International Society for Performance Improvement and received the Thomas Gilbert Distinguished Professional Achievement Award in 2006 and Lifetime Member Award in 2019. She was selected as an ASTD Legend Speaker at the 2007 International Conference & Exposition. In 2016, Clark received ATD's Distinguished Contribution to Talent Development Award. In addition to three editions of Evidence-Based Training Methods, her other titles include Scenario-Based E-Learning and e-Learning and the Science of Instruction in its 4th edition with Richard E. Mayer. She resides in southwest Colorado and Phoenix, Arizona, and divides her time among grandchildren, teaching, and writing.
