Harvey Estes was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He earned a bachelor's degree in English from the nearby University of Montevallo. He afterwards went to Duke Divinity School for seminary and served as a pastor in the United Methodist Church's North Carolina Conference. He currently resides in Greenville, North Carolina, where he works full-time as a puzzle builder. Newspapers such as the New York Sun, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times have published his puzzles.
