Educational Technology for Teaching and Learning by Timothy J Newby

Eric joins his first ship with high hopes but quickly learns that it is not at all what he expected. He is stuck in a prison with the chance of drowning. To make matters worse, his colleagues are a mixture of burnouts, back stabbers, dreamers and even the odd visionary. In this confined environment, intense hatreds and friendships are developed. The ship is neglected, worn out and about to be scrapped, so it is pushed hard for company profit. The result is a disaster; an engine room fire during a storm when crew members are missing. The crew is forced to work together to survive and Eric ends up playing an important role. This is a sailor story with no foul language, so it is fit for young and mature readers. It is a story of disappearing Canadiana, set in the beauty of the Great Lakes.

James D. Lehman is Professor of Educational Technology and Head of the Department of Curriculum at Purdue University. He directed Purdue's PT3 implementation project, an initiative to better prepare future teachers and teacher educators to use technology in the classroom.
