The Elephant and the Mountain by Richard H Ffrench-Constant
Follow the elephants of East Africa as they journey from their beloved mountain home to find water in a changing world. Lyrical and moving, this beautifully illustrated tale reminds us of the fragile world we live in.
My 6 year daughter loves the bookShe read it by herself and then told me and her Mum all about the story and the challenges that the elephants face. We should do everything we can to raise awareness of environmental issues and children's stories like this are the perfect vehicle. We owe it to young people to show them the beauty and wonder of the natural world, as well as its fragility. - Ross Piper, Zoologist and Explorer;
Author: Richard ffrench-Constant was born in Nairobi whilst his father was posted there as a doctor with the RAF. Although he is now a professional entomologist at the University of Exeter, his first love has always been the animals of Kenya. He is now leading field courses to Kenya and regularly visits Amboseli National Park, the setting of this book. Illustrator: After graduating in Art and Design, with a first-class degree in Fine Art, Emma Wood travelled to South Africa to help on two game reserves. This inspired her to return to university and study wildlife conservation. Now with a PhD in evolutionary ecology at the University of Exeter, she continues to visit Africa, this time to conduct research on the wildlife there.
