It involves the basing of clinical decisions on the best available evidence from systematic research. This book explains how evidence based decision making can be applied to health policy and management decisions about groups of patients and populations, rather than decisions about the treatment of individuals. Sir Muir Gray is author of Sod Seventy! Sod Sixty! (with Dr Claire Parker) and Sod it! Eat Well! with Anita Bean. Muir was the first Chief Knowledge Officer for the NHS and set up NHS Choices. He was the founding Director of the NHS National Screening Programmes, establishing programmes for cancer and aortic aneurysm screening specifically for older people. He is a Consultant in Public Health at Oxford University Hospitals and a professor at the University.
