Harry Evans's first years of life were blighted by a brutal stepfather. At the age of five his mother, Sali, married miner, Lloyd Evans, a passionate believer in workers' rights. Catrin Collier was born and brought up in Pontypridd. She worked in Europe and America before returning to her native Wales. She now lives on the Gower Peninsula near Swansea, with her family.
