Fireground Strategies Scenarios Workbook by Anthony Avillo
In the new second edition of the Scenarios Workbook, Chief Avillo presents all new scenarios, taking advantage of his method of “challenge-based learning” to reinforce the lessons learned from the Fireground Strategies textbook. As with his first Scenarios Workbook, the new edition is a workable study guide that serves as a companion to the textbook, giving students the opportunity to test themselves in simulated fireground situations. Following each scenario section, there are multiple-choice and short-answer questions, along with answers and explanations. Chief Avillo has provided in-depth explanations of answers to help students understand the reason for the strategy or tactic.
Anthony Avillo, a 28-year veteran of the fire service, is a deputy chief in the North Hudson (NJ) Regional Fire & Rescue Department, assigned as 1st Platoon regional tour commander. He has a BS degree in fire science from New Jersey City University, where he now serves as an instructor. He also teaches at the Bergen County (NJ) and Monmouth County (NJ) Fire Academies. An FDIC instructor, Avillo is a member of the FDIC advisory board and serves on the editorial advisory board of Fire Engineering magazine. The author of Fireground Strategies, 2nd edition (2008) and Fireground Strategies Workbook (2002, 2010), he is also a contributing author to Fire Engineering's Handbook for Firefighter I and Firefighter II (2009), coauthor of its Study Guide (2010) and collaborates on the Tactical Perspectives DVD series (2011), all published by Fire Engineering. In 2012 Avillo received the Fire Engineering/ISFSI George D. Post Fire Instructor of the Year Award.
