Tells the tale of Finlay, a boy growing up just after the Second World War. His mother joins his father, stationed with the Navy in the Far East, and Finlay is left with his grandfather, living on a large estate in rural Hampshire. This novel evokes the intense relationship of grandfather and grandson, and family and farmworkers.

Her father smiled. 'Kathy, my darling, darling daughter. Welcome home, you've grown so like your mother.'"

Rod Brammer is essentially a countryman before all else. He grew up in the valley of the River Test, where his passion for fieldsports and natural history was nurtured to expertise. Now a world-famous shooting coach, he is able to take some time for himself and write his first series of novels.
