Gimcrack by Richard Laws

A British horse racing thriller
Struggling Malton based racehorse trainer Harry Bolt is drawn into a suspicious death investigation when a potential new owner is found dead, minutes after leaving his racing stables.
Although the death has worrying similarities to an event in his own past, Harry's fortunes are given a sudden boost when he is made a rather strange offer, which is hard to turn down. It provides him with the opportunity of a lifetime: to spend serious money on several high quality racehorses at the yearling sales. This investment in bloodstock comes with only one objective - to win the Gimcrack, a top class race for juvenile colts, run at York's Ebor meeting.
Harry soon realises the stakes are much higher than he imagined. He can't afford to fail. He must train the winner of the Gimcrack; the lives of his friends and family may depend on it.
This is the second racing thriller from Richard Laws. His first, The Syndicate Manager, was published in 2018 and received five star reviews and featured regularly in the Amazon top bestseller lists in the horse racing and equestrian sports categories.
