Over the last few decades, faster, more efficient communications technology, transport and financial systems have combined to make the world a much smaller place. "Globalisation" examines the far-reaching effects of these changes, and identifies the winners and losers in the new global era. While vast corporations in the developed world have gained enormous wealth and power, people living in less developed countries have often lost their livelihoods and seen their environments destroyed. The author, Rob Bowden, is a freelance development geographer who has taught at the universities of Sussex, Brighton and Keele and worked in Africa and the Middle East. He specializes in international environment and development issues and has written numerous children's books. The consultant, Dr Rebecca Elmhirst, is a senior lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Brighton where she teaches courses on globalisation, development and social theory.
