His Uncle Albert books have been translated into 20 languages, and one of them, 'Uncle Albert and the Quantum Quest,' was the number one paperback bestseller in the United Kingdom for a period. He was granted an OBE by The Queen and the Bragg Medal by the Institute of Physics for his work in making science accessible to youngsters and the general public. He has collaborated with a number of prestigious publishing houses, including Faber and Faber, HarperCollins, Lion Hudson, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, and others. He was instrumental in the founding of the Open University of the United Kingdom (the UK's largest institution, with over 250,000 students), where he served as the head of the Department of Physics and Astronomy for 25 years.
High-energy physics was his subject of study, which he pursued at the CERN laboratory in Geneva and other important American laboratories. He is a qualified lay pastor in the Anglican Church and a member of the Center for Theological Research at Princeton, USA, in addition to his scientific work. In his leisure time, he works as a sculptor, and his work has been featured on BBC television. Thus far, he has 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
'Tomb to Womb' is his first foray into science fiction literature.
