His work has been published in numerous publications and anthologies. The Florida Arts Council has awarded him two fellowships. Flock and Shadow: New and Collected Poems was a national Book Sense Top Ten Selection in Poetry in 2006, and his Swimmer Dreams won The Stories Award in 2005. Michael Hettich was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in the city and suburbs of New York.

Upstate New York, Colorado, Vermont, and northern Florida have all been home to him. He presently teaches at Miami Dade College and lives in Miami.
