Formerly, she served as Director of Hospital Police and Transportation at UNC Hospitals in North Carolina, Chief of Campus Police and Public Safety with WakeMed Health and Hospitals in Raleigh, N.C., and Chief of Police and Public Safety with Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. She also is a former president of the International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHS).
