Herbs in Bloom by Jo Ann Gardner
Now in paperback, Herbs in Bloom is a delightful A-Z selection of 80 favorite groups of flowering herbs. Full of detailed information on how to grow each herb from seed or cuttings, the book offers systematic advice on site selection, soils, transplanting, and other practical concerns. Over 700 herbs are included in all. In the author's words, "It is my aim to convince fellow gardeners that herbs also have beautiful flowers and can be used to advantage anywhere in the landscape."
For almost forty years, Jo Ann Gardner has been producing, preserving, and baking with tiny fruit. Beginning in 1987, she and her husband ran a modest hand-/horse-powered farm on a secluded peninsula on Cape Breton Island, Canada, which sparked a series of books, essays, and speeches. They wrote Gardens of Use and Pleasure together, documenting how they used basic ways to transform a barren farm into a lush environment. Jo Ann and Jigs have established a modest farm with huge gardens near Westport, New York, in the Champlain Valley.
