Pre-registration student nurses spend 50 per cent of their training on practice placements, which provide a wealth of opportunities for students to develop their knowledge and skills. However, many students find themselves in a clinical environment which is foreign and confusing. This book will help the student to seek out and construct learning opportunities from within the clinical environment and to develop skills for practice learning which will help them to achieve a competent standard. Kath Sharples is a Senior Lecturer in Adult nursing and Kingston University. As an experienced Registered Nurse and Registered Nurse Teacher, Kath has a comprehensive understanding of the current challenges and developments within nurse education. Her main area of pedagogic interest and research activity is related to self-regulated learning in practice. Kath’s expertise is in developing and delivering innovative approaches to nurse education, with a special interest in developing the self-regulatory skills of student nurses undertaking their practice experiences.
