Long Beach by Norm Olson

Marc Ryder is a special agent for a little known government agency, Defense Foreign Liaison (DFL) and is assigned to their regional office in Long Beach, California. Ryder's job takes him to Frankfurt, Monte Carlo, Puerto Vallarta, Moscow and into the world of international shipping in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. It is there, while aboard a Soviet ship that he meets a beautiful Afghan woman who captivates his attention. She tells him she wants to live in America and that she has information for the American police. She does not tell him she is fleeing from the clutches of her drug smuggling brothers in Montenegro. The FBI comes up with some explicit photos of Ryder in a compromising situation and recruits him to assist in their investigation of the drug dealer. The drug dealer decides to expand his drug business by taking on more drugs supplied by the Afghan drug smugglers. Two members of the Huntington Beach drug ring are involved in a shooting and are sent by the drug dealer to lay low in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The FBI sends Ryder to Puerto Vallarta to locate the two fugitives and work with his close friend, the chief of police. As they make plans to arrest the fugitives, they encounter a ruthless international assassin, the Bolivian. She has been hired by the Panamanian cartel to kill the two fugitives. Pandemonium exists as bodies are dropping like flies. Ryder is
