Making Beer by Bill Mares
To have your own brewery is the dream of almost every home brewer. Bill Mares was one of those, but he had to wait 40 years to meet and join up with Todd Haire, a real brewer, for this dream to become real.
This book takes brewing full circle from Bill the amateur, making inadvertently wild beers, to Todd the professional, brewing first-class mixed-culture wild and funky beers in oak barrels, using mixed-culture fermentation.
Together, they offer a delightful journey through the craft-brewing revolution of the last four decades.
Raised in Texas, educated at Harvard, Bill Mares has been a journalist, a high school teacher and a member of the Vermont House of Representatives. He has authored or co-authored 15 books on subjects ranging from the Marine Corps to workplace democracy to Presidential fishing, plus four books of humor with Prof. Frank Bryan, including the best-seller, Real Vermonters Don't Milk Goats. His hobbies include running, beekeeping, singing and fly-fishing. He lives in Burlington, Vermont with his wife of 45 years, Chris Hadsel. They have two sons.
