Malevich by Gilles Nret
Kiev-born artist Kazimir Malevich painted Black Square in 1915 and with it established the zero point of painting, a seminal moment for modern and abstract practice. A century on from the Russian revolution, Malevichs groundbreaking pursuit of pure color and geometry remain pivotal influences in the Russian and global avant-garde.
Gilles Néret (1933–2005) was an art historian, journalist, writer, and museum correspondent.
