The Messenger of Athens by Anne Zouroudi
From the real life Shirley Valentine, Anne Zouroudi's first Greek mystery with the popular detective, Hermes Diaktoros. When the battered body of a young woman is discovered on a remote Greek island, the local police are quick to dismiss her death as an accident. Then a stranger arrives, uninvited, from Athens, announcing his intention to investigate further. His methods are unorthodox, and he brings his own mystery into the web of dark secrets and lies. Who has sent him, on whose authority is he acting, and how does he know of dramas played out decades ago?
'In this fascinating thriller, the remote Greek island of Thiminos seems untouched and untroubled by modern life - until the battered body of a young woman is found at the foot of a cliff' * Woman's Own *
'Absorbing and beautifully written and reveals the savage, superstitious reality behind the pretty facade that is all that most of us know of any Greek island' * Literary Review *
'This powerfully atmospheric mystery embraces Mediterranean passion, mythic meddling and patriarchal persecutionFirst-time novelist Anne Zouroudi proves a natural at the dark arts of writing Euro-crime' * Independent *
'A really good summer read' * Choice *

Brought up in the north of England, Anne Zouroudi - one of nature's natural travellers - has spent much of her adult life in less dour climates. Following a spell on Wall Street and in the Colorado Rockies, she abandoned a lucrative career with a major British travel agent for a simpler life in the Greek islands. Returning to the UK, she trained as a journalist, then funded her ambition to write by any possible means, including writing copy for travel brochures, delivering Yellow Pages and working in an antique shop. Her attachment to Greece remains strong, and the country is the inspiration for much of her writing. She lives in the Derbyshire Peak District with her son.
