The aim of this book is to provide a basic introduction as well as a background reference manual to fibre optic transmission for practising electronic and telecommunications engineers, technicians and students who would like to get to grips with this area of communications technology.Ray Tricker (MSc, IEng, CQP-FCQI, FIET, FCMI, FIRSE) is a Senior Consultant with over 60 years continuous service in Quality, Safety, Environmental and Project Management, Communication Electronics, Railway Command, Control and Signalling Systems, Information Technology and the development of Molecular Nanotechnology.
He served with the Royal Corps of Signals (for a total of 37 years) during which time he held various managerial posts culminating in being appointed as the Chief Engineer of NATO's Communication Security Agency (ACE COMSEC).
Most of Ray's work since leaving the Services has centred on the European Railways. He has held a number of posts with the Union International des Chemins de fer (UIC) [e.g. Quality Manager of the European Train Control System (ETCS)] with the European Commission [e.g. T500 Review Team Leader, ERTMS Users Group Project Coordinator, HEROE Project Coordinator] and currently (as well as writing books on diverse subjects for Taylor & Francis and Elsevier) he is busy assisting Small Businesses from around the world (usually on a no cost basis) to produce their own auditable Integrated Management Systems sufficient to meet the requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 etc. He is also a UKAS Assessor and recently he was appointed as the Quality, Safety and Environmental Manager for the Project Management Consultancy responsible for overseeing the multi-billion-dollar Trinidad Rapid Rail System.
