Analyses the causes of the riots of 2011 and their implications for the future. This book draws on his experience of growing up in Tottenham - the area he now represents and the place where the riots began. It explores the human stories behind the headlines. David Lammy was born in Tottenham in 1972, one of five children raised by a single mother. At the age of 11 he won a choral scholarship to The King's School in Peterborough and subsequently read Law at SOAS and the Harvard Law School, where he was the first black Briton to study for a Masters degree in Law. In 2000 he became Labour MP for Tottenham, before serving in the Blair and Brown governments. He has written on numerous occasions for national publications, including the Guardian, The Times, New Statesman and Spectator. He predicted social unrest on a number of occasions before the riots broke out and spoke passionately for his constituents in the wake of the riots.
