Ox, House, Stick by Don Robb

Bold collage illustrations and clear prose trace the origins of our familiar letters. From the proto-Sinaitic peoples, through the Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans, this book follows the development of the Roman alphabet.

Includes sidebar information on punctuation, writing materials, the technology of printing, and more.

After seven years as a teacher, Don Robb began his second career in educational publishing. Don taught Spanish, French, and English as a second language at the high school level in Toledo, Ohio, and then at a junior high school in Hackensack, New Jersey, after graduating from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he studied history and political science. His first work in publishing was with Holt, Rinehart as a foreign language consultant. He went on to work at Houghton Mifflin Co., where he became a vice president, in a range of editorial and marketing roles. In 1981, he quit that job to work at Charlesbridge (then Mastery Education Company).

Don is a voracious reader as well as a writer. His main interests are history, particularly American history, nonfiction science, and mysteries.
