Des MacHale is an Emeritus Professor at University College Cork, where he spent forty years teaching. He is the author of Picture the Silent Man (Appletree Publishing 2004) and The Comprehensive Guide to the Quiet Man (Appletree Press 2000). He was born and raised in County Mayo, Ireland, just a few kilometers from the set of The Quiet Man.
