In Ride High Pineapple, Isabella Burgess, a thirteen-year-old girl, is hiding a secret about her face, which is eating her up inside. She makes the decision to reveal her secret during English. Issy prays that this will stop Tia, who she has nicknamed The Beast, from calling her cruel names, such as 'Fish Face' and 'Googly Eyes'. It doesn't work and Issy must find another way.

Apart from having a face that is different, Issy is like many other teenagers. She experiences friendship ups and downs, a secret crush, and bouts of anxiety. Issy is also great at drawing and skateboarding.

The Australian author, Jenny Woolsey, was born with a craniofacial syndrome - Crouzon syndrome. Two of her children also have the syndrome. Jenny has written this book from her heart. The characters are fictitious, but Issy is a combination of herself and her daughter.

Woolsey, Jenny: - Jenny Woolsey is a writer, blogger, teacher and advocate for people with facial differences, mental illness and disabilities. She has a Diploma of Teaching (Primary), Bachelor of Education, Master of Education (Honours), and a Certificate in Creative Writing. Because she loves helping children, in 2016 she is studying a Certificate IV in Youth Work. Home is in the north of Brisbane, in Queensland, Australia, with her husband, three magnificent children, three spirited cats and her cute fluffy dog. Jenny started writing stories when she was little. As a teenager, poetry was her favourite genre. In 2014 Jenny decided it was time to begin writing Ride High Pineapple. The subject matter in Ride High Pineapple being close to her heart, as Jenny and two of her children have Issy's craniofacial syndrome. Anxiety and depression also live in the Woolsey household. Jenny writes to help children and teens who feel different, shy, anxious, or don't fit in. She understands as she was all of those growing up!
