The Right Way to Do Wrong by Harry Houdini

With Harry Houdini, things are not always as they seem. Part expos©, part instruction manual, The Right Way To Do Wrong features history's most famous illusionist revealing the methods of deception involved in everything from burglary, to pickpocketing, to swindles, forgeries and tricks. Along the way, he also debunks the secrets of his own and other conjurer's tricks, as well as the secrets of sideshow circus acts. Houdini was as clever and nimble a writer as he was a magician, making this book the ultimate anti-etiquette guide.

Harry Houdini (1874 – 1926) was born Erik Weisz in Budapest, Hungary, and immigrated to the United States to pursue a career as a circus trapeze artist. Starting around 1900, Houdini's spectacular escapes from shackles, ropes, and handcuffs, as well as from numerous secured containers, gained him an international renown. He permitted himself to be suspended in a straitjacket, head down, about 75 feet above earth, in front of hundreds of people, and then liberated himself. He became so well-known that he appeared in motion pictures from 1916 to 1923, demonstrating his incredible abilities. Houdini battled against mind readers, mediums, and others who claimed supernatural abilities in his final years. He claimed that they were charlatans who created all of their results using natural methods and techniques.
