Solomons Air War Volume 1 by Michael Claringbould
This first volume of Solomons Air War chronicles aerial warfare in the opening phase of the war in the Solomons Islands theatre, being the critical period of August-September 1942.
The authors are a benchmark of quality and accuracy for their accounts of the air actions in the South Pacific during World War Two* Flypast Magazine * Throughout the book there are plenty of archive images, along with some neat colour profile artwork of a wide variety of aircraft types and markings. Two appendices at the end, with details of aircraft losses and fatalities for both sides. The level of detail in the book is far greater than I have ever seen before about the story of Guadalcanal and the Solomons, and most especially, that it is I think fairly balanced with detail for both sides, right down to individual aircrew names. Well written, this was a book I thoroughly enjoyed reading and couldn't put down once started. Easy one to recommend in my view. * Military Model Scene *
Raised in Port Moresby, Michael Claringbould is a globally recognised expert on the Pacific air war. Peter Ingman is an Australian military history author specialising in the Pacific War.
