Mariko Tamaki is a writer and artist from Canada. She is most known for her 2008 graphic novel Skim, but she has also published a number of works of fiction and non-fiction. She was born in Toronto, Ontario, and graduated from McGill University with a bachelor's degree in English literature in 1994. Skim earned an Ignatz Award, a Joe Shuster Award, and a Doug Wright Award in 2009, and was a candidate for the 2008 Governor General's Awards in the Children's Literature category. In 2012, Tamaki received an Honour of Distinction from the Dayne Ogilvie Prize, a literary prize for Canadian lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender writers.

This One Summer, written by Mariko Tamaki and drawn by Jillian Tamaki, was nominated for an Ignatz Award on August 18, 2014. This One Summer also took home the 2015 Michael L. Printz Award. The American Library Association has given him the Printz Award and the Caldecott Honor. The author is based in Oakland, California.
