Understanding Industrial Society by Robin Theobald

This text introduces the reader to a sociological perspective on industrial society, aimed at students (both within and outside the social sciences) who seek a general understanding of the social consequences of economic change. Since it assumes that most of its readers will end up working in management, the book focuses upon the business enterprise and social relationships within it, aiming to provide a general background which will lay the foundations for more detailed study of organisational processes and the problems of management.
ROBIN THEOBALD is Principal Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Westminster and a visiting lecturer at the City University, London. He has also taught sociology at the University of Jos, Nigeria. A previous book he wrote in collaboration with Vicky Randall, Political Change and Underdevelopment, was nominated by Choice as an 'outstanding academic book' in 1987, and his Corruption, Development and Underdevelopment was nominated in 1990 for one of the six Pitré-Salomone Marino prizes awarded annually by the Centro Internazionale di Etnostoria, Palermo.
