Wharram Percy, near Malton in North Yorkshire, is the best-known of the Deserted Medieval Village sites. Here the visitor can see the last remaining standing buildings: the ruined church and farm cottages nestling in a steep-sided valley. Ancient trackways lead up onto the chalk plateau where the foundations of over 30 medieval peasant houses can be clearly seen.
