A Winter Song by Deneece Butler
In a dismal old schoolhouse down by the sea,
there was a young boy named Mucumber McGee.
Lunch had begun, and was nearly complete.
Would there be any food for Mucumber to eat?
Alas, not a hot dog, not even beef stew,
only a plate full of brown, lumpy goo .
Originally published by HarperCollins in 2008, The Lunch Lady's Liver is the second book in the Mucumber McGee series.
Butler, Deneece: - This is DeNeece Butler's first novel. At almost eighty years old, it is the fulfillment of one of the items on her bucket list. The story is set in two of her favorite places, the mountains of North Carolina and Alaska. She explains, I didn't know when I started out exactly what the story would be. It is pulled from various parts of my life, and various people who crossed my path. Most of it is purely fictional. Some of it is loosely based on fact and certain real characters. Some of it, the medical parts, are based solely on medical research. Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, He'll give me time to write the sequel. Dear Reader, don't ever give up on your dreams. If you have a dream about doing something, just do it.
