A young Vancouver Island police officer's 1894 investigation into the death of a prostitute once painted by his artist mother draws him into a morass of personal and professional complexities as he searches for the truth of her death and life.
Edwin DesRosiers and the murdered Vicky Crosse have a personal history dating back to his formative teenage years, and his memories and feelings for the woman complicate his search for her killer and the reasons leading to her death.
In the end, he discovers the villain responsible for Vicky's death, and a shocking revelation about the city Edwin polices.
Allin, Lou: - Lou Allin is the author of the Belle Palmer mysteries set in Northern Ontario, and the RCMP Corporal Holly Martin series on Vancouver Island. Lou also has written That Dog Won t Hunt in Orca s Rapid Reads editions for adults with literacy issues and in 2013 won Canada s Arthur Ellis Best Novella Award for Contingency Plan. She s done two standalones for Five Star/Cengage: A Little Learning is a Murderous Thing/05 and Man Corn Murders/09, set respectively in the Michigan UP and in Utah. A former BC/Yukon VP for the Crime Writers of Canada, she lived across from Washington State on the Juan de Fuca Strait with her border collies and mini-poodle.
