The first is the end of the Holocene and the start of the Anthropocene, which was marked by the test of a nuclear bomb on 16 July 1945. In the prevailing peace and security narrative, nuclear weapons and the ‘other’ (country, bloc or alliance) pose a perceived threat to humankind’s survival. In the Anthropocene narrative, ‘we are the threat’ through our way of life and the burning of fossil fuels. The start of the Anthropocene coincides with a change in the international order with the setting up of the UN and the Bretton Woods Institutions. Three stages of this order are distinguished: the Cold War (bipolarity), the post-Cold War era (unipolarity), and the end of the rule-based global liberal order (multipolarity) on 24 February 2022. In this book ten multidisciplinary perspectives discuss complexity, Anthropocene geopolitics, peace and security discourses and the debate on the Anthropocene, planetary boundaries, complex crises and integrative geography in the Anthropocene, governance and politics, and the Patriacene and gender. Both existential threats for humankind are illustrated by cover photos of the first nuclear weapons test on 16 July 1945 and by Category 5 Hurricane Otis, an extreme weather event impacting on Acapulco in Mexico on 25 October 2023.      The Anthropocene as a new epoch of Earth history coincides in 1945 with a change in the international order. In the security and peace narrative, the ‘other’ and nuclear weapons pose an existential threat; in the Anthropocene narrative. This dual existential change requires a rethinking of politics, policy and polity. In the social sciences, the Anthropocene is being discussed from multidisciplinary perspectives (geography, political science, and peace, security, and gender studies). Some of the issues analysed could have negative consequences not only today but also for future generations if not prevented in time. With regard to health risks, the authors discuss several diseases that could be avoided if people perform (or avoid) certain behaviours and become accustomed to having healthier habits. Concerning environmental hazards, the authors discuss which social groups should be taken into account based on preventive strategies used to avoid a particular disaster. Both sections of the book on health and environmental issues have a subsection with chapters about risks and society. No matter the risk-related discipline the reader is familiar with, when he ends reading the book, it will become clear that risk analysis is the basis for prevention, and that it cannot be addressed from a single discipline nor with a single methodology.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52119762665745,"sku":"NLS9783319737980","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319737980.jpg?v=1757422965"},{"product_id":"risks-violence-security-and-peace-in-latin-america-book-serena-oswald-9783319738079","title":"Risks, Violence, Security and Peace in Latin America","description":"This book analyses the war against drugs, violence in streets, schools and families, and mining conflicts in Latin America. It examines the nonviolent negotiations, human rights, peacebuilding and education, explores security in cyberspace and proposes to overcome xenophobia, white supremacy, sexism, and homophobia, where social inequality increases injustice and violence. During the past 40 years of the Latin American Council for Peace Research (CLAIP) regional conditions have worsened. Environmental justice was crucial in the recent peace process in Colombia, but also in other countries, where indigenous people are losing their livelihood and identity. Since the end of the cold war, capitalism aggravated the life conditions of poor people. The neoliberal dismantling of the State reduced their rights and wellbeing in favour of enterprises. These rivers are heavily suffering from millions of people who in contrast consider them as holy and worship them. Edited by Professor Imtiaz Ahmed, the contributors of this book from India, Nepal and Pakistan are leading readers on a journey through the transboundary rivers of South Asia where rivers are vital for the life and living. The book explains why the region needs a framework for cooperation on the wellbeing of these rivers. River management is the key to sustaining healthy river systems. The authors stress that right of the rivers must be codified and guaranteed by the state and the people in South Asia. However, the statist approach to the transboundary rivers in South Asia actually conceives them as national rivers. This volume contributes to the current campaign of overcoming the water dystopias in South Asia.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52138183754001,"sku":"NLS9783319673738","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319673738.jpg?v=1757561307"},{"product_id":"reconciliation-and-education-in-bosnia-and-herzegovina-book-eleonora-emkic-9783319730332","title":"Reconciliation and Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina","description":"Two decades after the war, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) still faces a weak national identity and ethnic and religious divisions that are further preventing the country from reaching sustainable peace and development. This study discusses research questions about challenges BiH has been facing on its way to peace transformation; about relation between the current educational system and development of sustainable peace in BiH; as well as to answer how to achieve positive and sustainable peace in BiH through peace education. In order to offer a peacebuilding framework the study offers an analysis of the role of education and educational programmes (formal and non-formal) in the creation of ethnic identity and peaceful coexistence in BiH since the Ottoman Empire until today. Five main research themes emerge from its 20 chapters:  · The roles of environmental peacemaking, environmental justice, ecological  education and eco-ethics in helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change  · Peacebuilding by CSOs after violent conflicts, with particular reference to  accountability, reconciliation and healing  · CSO involvement in democratic processes and political transition after violent  conflicts  · Relationships between local CSOs and their foreign funders and the interactions  between CSOs and the African Union's peace and security architecture.  · The particular role of faith-based CSOs  The book underlines the centrality of dialogue to African peacebuilding and the indigenous  wisdom and philosophies on which itis based. Such wisdom will be a key resource in  confronting the existential challenges of the Anthropocene.  The book will be a significant resource for researchers, academics and policymakers  concerned with the challenge of climate change, its interactions with armed conflict and the  peacebuilding role of CSOs.  · This pathbreaking book shows why peacebuilding analysis and efforts need to be  urgently re-oriented towards the existential challenges of environmental peace and  justice.  · It explains the emerging conceptual frameworks which are needed for this new role.  · It explains the critical role that CSOs - local and international - will play in  implementing this new peacebuilding approach, with particular reference to sub-  Saharan Africa.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52149671231761,"sku":"NLS9783030951788","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030951788.jpg?v=1757607579"},{"product_id":"delivering-aid-without-government-book-tamer-qarmout-9783319496603","title":"Delivering Aid Without Government","description":"In a fragile and conflict-ridden context such as the Gaza Strip, where the de facto Hamas government faces isolation and lacks international recognition, the provision of aid and development schemes challenges donors and CSOs delivering services to Palestinians. Moreover, as a result of the no-contact policy, recovery and reconstruction schemes were delivered with limited involvement from the de facto Hamas government, raising questions about the efficacy of the governance without government concept. This book examines the dynamics and the impact of international donors' financing of Civil Society Organizations that were involved in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. Written mostly in the future tense, these discourses conceive of India through specific frames of global change and simultaneously offer prescriptive suggestions for the pathways to fulfilling the vision. Both as summary accounts of the shifts taking place in India and in the relationships of India with other global actors as well as roadmaps for the immediate and longer term directions for India, these discourses offer meaningful entry points into elite imaginations of India. Engaging these imaginations creates a framework for understanding the tropes that are mobilized in support of specific policy formulations in economic, political, cultural, and social spheres. Connecting meanings within networks of power and structure help make sense of the symbolic articulations of India within material relationships.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52404025458961,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52404025917713,"sku":"NLS9789811030499","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9789811030499.jpg?v=1758763074"},{"product_id":"mobility-patterns-and-experiences-of-the-middle-classes-in-a-globalizing-age-book-monica-laura-vazquez-maggio-9783319533926","title":"Mobility Patterns and Experiences of the Middle Classes in a Globalizing Age","description":"The book presents insights from a mixed methodology study that examines recent mobility patterns exhibited by the middle classes. Its major contributions are two-fold: theoretically, it advances the conceptualisation of middle class migration; empirically, it analyses the migratory motivations of a relatively new Latin-American group in Australia. The accelerated insertion of the Mexican society into globalisation processes is strongly linked not only to the growing participation in migration phenomena but also to people's outflow to new destinations. Although studies of Mexican emigration are vast, research on Mexican skilled migration is scarce, and research that focuses on mobility to non-USA destinations is even scarcer. Mexicans are a relatively new addition to Australia's multicultural society, and little is known about this group's profile and why they choose to migrate to Australia. Employing a mixed methodology approach, the book provides a comprehensive portrait of migrationin a new group.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52404842004753,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52404842660113,"sku":"NLS9783319533926","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319533926.jpg?v=1758765300"},{"product_id":"healing-the-wounds-of-gukurahundi-in-zimbabwe-book-dumisani-ngwenya-9783319668178","title":"Healing the Wounds of Gukurahundi in Zimbabwe","description":"This book is based on a participatory action research project carried out with a group of former Zimbabwe People's revolutionary Army (ZPRA) which was the armed wing of the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU) which was led by the late Joshua Nkomo. ZPRA was the primary target of Gukurahundi, a pogrom by the Mugabe government which left an estimated 20 000 civilians dead and countless others tortured in the early 1980s in Matebeleland, Zimbabwe. It has been almost 30 years since the violence ended, but there has never been an official healing and reconciliation programme or truth commission into the atrocities. The government chose the path of amnesia by granting a blanket amnesty to all involved. The regime has enforced a culture of silence over the event through repression and intimidation. Drawing on established securitisation frameworks (‘Copenhagen’ and ‘Paris’ Schools), the author uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative techniques to systematically examine more than 3,500 speeches, policies and doctrinal articles since 2003. Importantly, the author undertakes an examination of the intersection between the political and the military spheres, probing the question of how ideology has influenced the military’s uptake on the issue. In this context, the author identifies the difficulty of an ostensibly apolitical institution responding to what has become both a hyper-political issue and an unprecedented security threat. A close examination of the key political actors – their intent, outlook and political mandate for broader climate action – is therefore crucial to understanding the policy freedom and constraints within which military leaders operate. The book consists of eight chapters divided into four parts, focusing on: perspectives and methodological insights; empirical case studies; case study comparison; and concluding observations. •\tOffers a rare and systematic examination of military climate policy by a military officer from Australia•\tIdentifies a divergence of Australian military climate policy from that of the US military during the Obama Administration•\tDevelops a unique method that quantifies climate security, enabling a graphical representation for quick and ready reference ideally suited to policy-makers","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52473101943057,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52473102926097,"sku":"NLS9783319496573","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319496573.jpg?v=1759839614"},{"product_id":"regional-ecological-challenges-for-peace-in-africa-the-middle-east-latin-america-book-serrena-oswald-9783319305592","title":"Regional Ecological Challenges for Peace in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia Pacific","description":"This book presents peer-reviewed texts from the International Peace Research Association's Ecology and Peace Commission: M.I. A lack of sensitivity to the trauma experienced by the survivors of conflict and mass violence leads to interventions that are at best removed from, and at worst detrimental to the welfare of the survivors. Interventions that take into consideration the complex and multifaceted ways in which the survivors experience and respond to the traumatic events, encourage capacities for resilience in the survivors, engage the creative arts in peacebuilding, and emphasise the centrality of community and relationships, are seen to assist the survivors in recovery from trauma and to facilitate peacebuilding. • Diverse anecdotes and real life stories from the research participants.• The journey as a recurring motif throughout the book, weaved in a clear, easy to read style of writing.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52486076104977,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52486077251857,"sku":"NLS9783319498027","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319498027.jpg?v=1759858665"},{"product_id":"environmental-law-and-policies-in-turkey-book-vakur-smer-9783030364823","title":"Environmental Law and Policies in Turkey","description":"This book aims to provide a general systematic analysis of key issues of Turkish environmental law and policies and to highlight the related concerns and challenges. Its chapters provide a historical perspective and general understanding of the legal settings of Turkish Environmental Law; offer an overall understanding of the evolving and prevailing paradigms of legislation and administrative practices in environmental policy in Turkey; explain how EIA has become the main environmental management tool and instrument of environmental compliance in Turkey; discuss the project process, challenges and results of the EU-funded project ‘Turkey’s Map of Environmental Violations’ and food security in Turkey; and present a picture of environmental justice movements from bottom-up over the establishment and operation of small-scale hydroelectricity power plants.Thus, with its comprehensive coverage of up-to-date information and findings enabling the reader to understand the topic in full\tanalyses of key themes in Turkish environmental law and policies, addressing, in separate chapters, concepts like environmental justice, food security, environmental compliance, environmental impact assessment (EIA), and environmental cases in Turkey in detail\tmultidisciplinary approach enabling readers to learn about the topic in a holistic mannerit aims to be:•\ta valuable source of information about Turkish environmental law and policies•\tan effective tool to support teaching and research on Turkish environmental law and policies•\tan aid to decision-making on Turkish environmental issues•\tan important resource for graduate and postgraduate research students and policymakers working on Turkish environmental law and policies Given there is no competitive book on the market with similar coverage, it makes a meaningful contribution to Turkish environmental scholarship","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52488894349585,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52488895496465,"sku":"NLS9783030364823","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783030364823.jpg?v=1759877881"},{"product_id":"culture-international-transactions-and-the-anthropocene-book-lourdes-arizpe-schlosser-9783642416019","title":"Culture, International Transactions and the Anthropocene","description":"This book analyses how global transactions have been progressively conducted and negotiated in the last 25 years. Achieving a new understanding of sustainability transition in the Anthropocene requires a deeper analysis on culture. The development of new positions of international institutions, national governments, scientific organizations, private fora and civil society movements on culture and nature shows how global transactions must take place in a rapidly transforming world. In her book the author provides a multi-situated ethnography of live debates on culture, global environmental change, development and diversity directly recorded by the author as a participating and decision-making anthropologist from 1988 to 2016. She examines the politicization and internationalization of culture by recognizing, negotiating and diversifying views on cultures and re-thinking culture in the Anthropocene. The merging of science and policy in taking up cultural and natural challenges in theAnthropocene is discussed.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52516565647633,"sku":"NLS9783642416019","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783642416019.jpg?v=1760503712"},{"product_id":"sustainable-consumption-book-audley-genus-9783319296630","title":"Sustainable Consumption","description":"This book originates from the work of contributors to initiatives and global networks promoting and pursuing lines of enquiry that recognise and probe relationships between sustainable consumption, design and production, and the implications of those relationships for new economic activity and the way we live and govern ourselves.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52537166233873,"sku":"NLS9783319296630","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319296630.jpg?v=1760677312"},{"product_id":"paris-climate-agreement-a-deal-for-better-compliance-book-zerrin-savaan-9783030143121","title":"Paris Climate Agreement: A Deal for Better Compliance?","description":"This book discusses options for an improved compliance system under the Paris Climate Agreement by addressing  current weaknesses. Climate change is one of the main drivers of the Anthropocene and is intricately linked to many great challenges we face: lack of fresh water, food security, biodiversity loss, and human rights of present and future generations. The radical influence of humanity on nature must change from destructive to reconstructive, by the path of sustainable development, circular economy, climate action, green technology, and environmental awareness.    This book explores the pathways of transition towards a safe and sustainable Anthropocene in the Asia-Pacific and reviews the progress and the challenges in climate action, the recovery from COVID-19, and the re-articulation of world order. The chapters address both regional and country levels, the majority analysing China and Mexico. The experiences presented can be replicated in other regions of the world.    The book offers useful insights for all interested in the Anthropocene, in climate action, sustainability, and the relationship between human beings and nature, thus motivating the decision-makers to implement a just and inclusive transition to a safe Anthropocene.    •     A novel study that explores links between the Anthropocene, climate change, and sustainability, framing the transition towards a safe and sustainable Anthropocene in the Asia-Pacific.    •     Strategies and policies on climate action, renewable energies, green technology, and environmental education include the participation of governments, NGOs, and civil society.    •     Case studies based on experiences at the regional and country level provide valuable insights for both industrialised and developing countries.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52608779485457,"sku":"NLS9783031665202","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783031665202.jpg?v=1761346535"},{"product_id":"sustainable-development-in-the-anthropocene-book-luis-alberto-padilla-9783030803988","title":"Sustainable Development in the Anthropocene","description":"In the Anthropocene sustainable development responds to socio-economic, environmental and political crises provoked by humankind due to global warming and the great acceleration of human intervention in ecosystems. This book introduces readers to current debates on sustainable development and to a holistic and multidisciplinary approach. Regional integration and supranational institutions are fundamental for sustainable development. The democratisation of the international system requires a new multilateralism. Global problems of demography, economic ideology of unlimited growth, the prevailing technocratic paradigm, consumerism, problems of waste, fossil fuels, industrial food production, use of fertilisers, water management and climate change are discussed, and the importance of multilateral agreements for security, sustainable peace and development is explored. This planetary crisis may be solved by international cooperation based on the UN sustainable development goals. In the five decades of attempts to achieve peace, a key element is the Bangsamoros’ search for a kind of development that is compatible with their aspirations for freedom and their future. This book presents a study of the Bangsamoro communities and their social constructions of conflict, peace and development. It examines the viability of the sustainable human development framework for application in their challenging realities. The usefulness of the sustainable human development framework lies not only in its use of human development parameters like the Human Development Index. It also provides an approach towards development that synergizes with the sustainable peace framework – an imperative for Mindanao. At the centre of this approach is the Participatory Rural Appraisal and Participatory Learning and Actionmethodology for eliciting responses, stimulating discussion, documenting verbal and non-verbal ideas and carrying out small-scale projects to demonstrate community participation.    The book concludes with two main points: that (a) both sustainable human development and peacebuilding are mutually reinforcing frameworks aimed at achieving the same human development goals, and (b) the pursuit of the right to self-determination is enhanced, as both frameworks are combined to provide a context for the attainment of peace in Mindanao.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52656377233681,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52656377659665,"sku":"NLS9783319533865","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319533865.jpg?v=1762224384"},{"product_id":"knowing-the-salween-river-resource-politics-of-a-contested-transboundary-river-book-carl-middleton-9783319774398","title":"Knowing the Salween River: Resource Politics of a Contested Transboundary River","description":"This open access book focuses on the Salween River, shared by China, Myanmar, and Thailand, that is increasingly at the heart of pressing regional development debates. The basin supports the livelihoods of over 10 million people, and within it there is great socio-economic, cultural and political diversity. The basin is witnessing intensifying dynamics of resource extraction, alongside large dam construction, conservation and development intervention, that is unfolding within a complex terrain of local, national and transnational governance. With a focus on the contested politics of water and associated resources in the Salween basin, this book offers a collection of empirical case studies that highlights local knowledge and perspectives. Given the paucity of grounded social science studies in this contested basin, this book provides conceptual insights at the intersection of resource governance, development, and politics of knowledge relevant to researchers, policy-makers and practitioners at a time when rapid change is underway. -   Fills a significant knowledge gap on a major river in Southeast Asia, with empirical and conceptual contributions -   Inter-disciplinary perspective and by a range of writers, including academics, policy-makers and civil society researchers, the majority from within Southeast Asia -   New policy insights on a river at the cross-roads of a major political and development transition","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52668359115025,"sku":"NLS9783319774398","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783319774398.jpg?v=1762284815"},{"product_id":"transition-strategies-for-sustainable-community-systems-book-amar-kjr-nayak-9783030003555","title":"Transition Strategies for Sustainable Community Systems","description":"This book presents five critical dimensions on relationships, institutions, produc-tion, organisation, and governance from design and systems perspectives for thesystematic transition of unstable and vulnerable communities across the world tosustainable community systems.• The first section discusses features of relationships and processes to deepencooperation and trust within a community.• The second section examines institutions within and outside a district tofoster synergy across institutions within a district and to minimise negativeexternalities on local communities within a district.• The third section deals with food production systems that are nature-friendly, resilient, efficient and sustainable.• The fourth section discusses the design of producer organisations that cangraduate to become sustainable community enterprise systems.•The fifth section focuses on community governance that can facilitatedecentralised, participatory, transparent and democratic local governancesystems. The contribution of this book is twofold. First, the book adds to the limited literature on incentives for engaging in armed conflict in Sub-Saharan Africa and the post-conflict recovery trajectory. Secondly, it provides evidence on likely forms of discrimination due to biases from social identity amongst refugees and hosts, which may affect refugee integration.    The book is organized as follows: the first chapter is a general motivation and framing of the studies. The second chapter investigates the incentives and disincentives for engaging in armed conflicts in the Great Lakes Region (GLR). The GLR has a history of armed conflict, with some active armed conflicts in South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which have affected the development of the region. The GLR is also characterized by criss-crossing hostilities, including governments supporting fellow incumbent governments to quell a rebellion or supporting rebel groups hostile to sitting governments. The region provides an excellent case study for understanding the incentives and disincentives for armed conflict, especially in SSA. The third and fourth chapters address a highly policy-relevant issue in the context of refugee-hosting and integration. Humanitarian efforts to manage refugees have emphasized the need for self-reliance and reintegration with the host communities. The chapters examine the potential discrimination and biases that hosting communities may harbor towards refugees and how these attitudes can impact land transactions. Refugees may face discrimination emerging from differences in social identity and characterization within and external to refugee settlements. The behavioral attitudes of hosts may also influence their willingness to engage in land transactions with refugees. Amidst costly, unsustainable approaches to land distribution to refugees by hosting governments, land arrangements that hinge on the hosting communities’ behavioral attributes, such as trust and altruism, may offer lasting solutions. If fairness or social preferences are profound amongst refugees and hosting communities, land transactions between hosts and refugees might provide an alternative sustainable approach for refugees to acquire land. Ignoring positive behavioral attributes through government provision may crowd out such private provision.  •    Adds to the literature on incentives for armed conflict  •    Evidence on trajectory for post- conflict recovery","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":53153033748753,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53153034043665,"sku":"NLS9783032048196","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9783032048196.jpg?v=1771892363"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/de-de\/collections\/anthropocene-politik-economics-society-science-ser-buchreihe.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
