This unique anthology brings together the work of English poets such as Byron, Shelley, Keats, Wordsworth, Tennyson and Swinburne; American 'immortals' such as Emerson and Edgar Allan Poe; and many examples of writings by Pre-Raphaelites like Dante Gabriel Rossetti and William Morris, who were both poets and painters. The paintings and drawings chosen to illustrate the poems contain some of the most haunting and beautiful images from 19th-century art. A 6 page Index of Paintings at the end of the book shows each painting in its entirety. An anthology for lovers of art and poetry, and for lovers everywhere - a celebration of the power of love.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49583213969681,"sku":"GOR001308736","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49651691389201,"sku":"GOR006727722","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0711213631.jpg?v=1751294864"},{"product_id":"mystery-of-things-book-clive-wilmer-9781857548242","title":"Mystery of Things","description":"A collection of poems exploring the interdependence of earthly things and heavenly mystery.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49620347748625,"sku":"GOR002868066","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1857548248.jpg?v=1750803688"},{"product_id":"forced-march-book-clive-wilmer-9781900564533","title":"Forced March","description":"Forced March is a new edition of Radnoti s selected poems, in the powerful and moving translations of Clive Wilmer and George Gomori. Poet Dick Davis explains why this book is so important: Radnoti has emerged as the major poetic voice to record the civilian experience of World War I in occupied Europe. His poems are an extraordinary record of a mind determined to affirm its civilization in the face of overwhelming odds. He is one of the very greatest poets of the twentieth century, and Clive Wilmer s and George Gomori s versions are by far the best that exist in English. By the time the Second World War broke out, Miklos Radnoti was already an established poet. When the Nazis took over his home-town of Budapest, Radnoti was sent to a labour camp at Bor in occupied Serbia. Then, in 1944, as the Germans retreated from the eastern front, Radnoti and his fellow labourers were force-marched back into Hungary. On 9 November, too weak to carry on, he and many comrades were executed by firing-squad. When the bodies were exhumed the following year, Radnoti was identified by a notebook of poems in his greatcoat pocket. These poems, published in 1946 as Foaming Sky, secured his position as one of the giants of modern Hungarian poetry.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":49635615932689,"sku":"GOR003115546","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ WELL_READ \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50799026241809,"sku":"GOR014076632","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/190056453X.jpg?v=1751218556"},{"product_id":"poets-talking-book-clive-wilmer-9781857540758","title":"Poets Talking","description":"Between 1989 and 1992 Clive Wilmer interviewed many poets for Radio 3's \"Poet of the Month\". This book includes 19 of those conversations, and two additional interviews. Wilmer chose poets he wanted to talk to, most of them with a substantial following. In the book, they discuss their lives, approaches to language and form, and the ways their work draws on and contributes to common literary and civic worlds. The poets interviewed include: Fleur Adcock, Patricia Beer, Donald Davie, Seamus Heaney, Ted Hughes, P.J. Kavanagh, Les Murray, Craig Raine, Peter Scupham and Ken Smith.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"GB \/ VERY_GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50149398839569,"sku":"GOR009148213","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ GOOD \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":50433669464337,"sku":"GOR008740112","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1857540751.jpg?v=1751412711"},{"product_id":"falls-book-clive-wilmer-9780953094738","title":"The Falls","description":"Clive Wilmer's fourth collection of poems.
