The first part of a two-volume set, the text now extends its coverage past Confederation to the milestone year of 1885, when the completion of the CPR united the nation, and the hanging of Louis Riel deepened the divisions between its French, English, and Aboriginal peoples.  Bringing all the hallmarks of previous editions together with significant new material and indispensable pedagogical tools, The Peoples of Canada, fourth edition, is the definitive introduction to pre-Confederation Canadian history.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50345523937553,"sku":"CIN0195446364G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50500831543569,"sku":"CIN0195446364VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52629746942225,"sku":"NIN9780195446364","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0195446364.jpg?v=1751037798"},{"product_id":"interpreting-canada-s-past-book-jm-bumsted-9780195427806","title":"Interpreting Canada's Past","description":"Interpreting Canada's Past: A Post-Confederation Reader is a supplemental book and the second of two volumes. It includes both primary and secondary documents. This volume is designed to accompany J.M. Bumsted's two-volume textbook The Peoples of Canada or his single-volume text A History of the Canadian Peoples. This edition contains two primary documents and two historical interpretations in each chapter, except in Chapter 7, which contains six examples of visual primary documents and two historical interpretations, making the book much shorter than the third edition. Thus it will be easier for instructors to incorporate these readings into coursework. Each chapter also includes an introduction to help contextualize the documents, a list of questions for consideration, and a list of suggested further readings.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50761599418641,"sku":"CIN0195427807G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51324378087697,"sku":"CIN0195427807VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0195427807.jpg?v=1750972625"},{"product_id":"peoples-of-canada-a-post-confederation-history-4e-book-jm-bumsted-9780195446319","title":"The Peoples of Canada: A Post-Confederation History, 4e","description":"The Peoples of Canada: A Post-Confederation History is J.M. Bumsted's best-selling survey of Canada's social, cultural, political, and economic history from 1867 to the present. While retaining all the hallmark features of preceding editions, this fourth edition has been thoroughly revised to incorporate new material on many key areas: modern culture, including the arts, music and literature; hockey; the environment and the Arctic; and key events in international and domestic politics.   Featuring five insightful essays on the writing of history, along with numerous biographical sketches, excerpts from primary source documents, illustrations, maps, and pedagogical aids, the fourth edition remains the definitive introduction to post-Confederation Canadian history.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ VERY_GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50797115277585,"sku":"CIN0195446313VG","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":51415548723473,"sku":"CIN0195446313G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/0195446313.jpg?v=1750908303"},{"product_id":"henry-alline-book-jm-bumsted-9781442651852","title":"Henry Alline","description":"To Canadians of this century the name of Henry Alline is almost unknown. This biography introduces him to the general reader. Through the story of his life it also recreates the early settlement of the Maritime provinces, and examines the origins of one of the most dominant and continuing themes in Canadian life, evangelical pietism.    Henry Alline emigrated from Rhode Island to Nova Scotia with his parents in 1760. Following his religious conversion during adolescence, he became an evangelical preacher and travelled throughout Nova Scotia spreading the gospel. But Alline was more than an itinerant preacher. Drawing on British (and indirectly on German) mythical writings, he rejected the tenets of Calvinism in favour of universal salvation and human free will. He emphasized Christian asceticism and mysticism. His writings, and his attempts to develop an intellectual rationale for his evangelical position, made him Canada’s first metaphysical and mystical philosopher.   In the history of early British settlement in Nova Scotia the name of Alline stands out because of his participation in the process and problems of settlement and his leadership during the trying times of the American Revolution. His career embodied a rejection of both the United States (by a rejection of Puritanism) and of Britain (by a rejection of church and state in Nova Scotia), and put Alline in a classic Nova Scotia position, neutrality, which could be justified by the importance of Christ and the relative unimportance of government. The years in which Alline lived were particularly critical ones for Canada, and his career both mirrors and dominates a period of pioneer hardships, political crises, and spiritual concern born of the uncertainties of human existence.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51080194130193,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51080195014929,"sku":"NIN9781442651852","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52588893503761,"sku":"NLS9781442651852","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1442651857.jpg?v=1763483327"}],"url":"https:\/\/www.worldofbooks.com\/de-de\/collections\/autor-buecher-von-jm-bumsted.oembed","provider":"World of Books ","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
