The Fires of Yule provides a template and a pattern for entering deeply into the Winter Solstice Season, experiencing it in poetic and transformative ways through a contemporary calendar called The Thirteen Dayes of Yule. Readers of The Fires of Yule will follow a pilgrim path of the Thirteen Dayes from 13 to 25 December, engaging in various myths, symbols, stories, and rituals associated with each day. Becoming 'practitioners' of the Yule, deepening their experience of the Winter Solstice, they will move beyond the more banal and commercialized forms of 'the December holidays.' The calendar of the Thirteen Dayes is sourced (historically) in Celtic myth and Paganism, as well as (imaginatively) in the lore of the Elves of ancient pre-Celtic worlds. This book brings together many of the best-known icons and customs of modern Christmas traditions, re-sourcing them in the light of a Pagan Hearth and offering touchstones for self-renewal at Winter Solstice. This revised edition of The Fires of Yule presents the mystic pattern of Thirteen Dayes in its fullest expression, narrated in the voice of a fictional character, Cornelius Whitsel, a student of religion and a Pagan spiritual director in the Keltelven Traditions who lives in the imagined landscape of Ross County, Pennsylvania. Cornelius has been a character in two of Montague Whitsel's other books; Ham Farir: The Faring of Matthew Thorin Dier (2008) and Tales from the Seasons (2009). The Fires of Yule is the culmination of more than three decades of the author's devout engagement with the Yule and deep reflection on the nature of the Winter Solstice. Montague Whitsel has explored, studied and practiced Western spiritualities grounded in the Celtic, Neo-Pagan and Monastic traditions for more than 40 years.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"US \/ GOOD \/ SBYB","offer_id":50378759897361,"sku":"CIN1481707752G","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51029139816721,"sku":"NIN9781481707756","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52120679219473,"sku":"NLS9781481707756","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1481707752.jpg?v=1751020165"},{"product_id":"wellsprings-of-the-deer-book-montague-whitsel-9781403341389","title":"Wellsprings of the Deer","description":null,"brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51180172116241,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":51180174606609,"sku":"NIN9781403341389","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52149401354513,"sku":"NLS9781403341389","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1403341389.jpg?v=1750825222"},{"product_id":"ham-farir-book-montague-whitsel-9781434341082","title":"Ham-Farir","description":"Two groups of unlikely companions have converged on the idyllic Deer Hill home of horror novelist Daniel Westforth Whittier in order to recall the bizarre events they experienced a year before in the summer and fall of 2003, ostensibly to furnish him with the plot for a new book. In the stories in this book you will follow the adventures of characters living in a fictional world called Ross County as they seek out the touchstones of an authentic Life Together in Earth \u0026amp; Spirit. You will hear an account of their hikes, experiences and epiphanies, as well as listen as they reflect on these moments of revelation. Many of the poems in this book are expressions of vivid and self-transformative experiences; stories told in verse that express something of the wonder each character has for life, focused on an event that drew them a little closer to self-realization and self-fulfillment; these being the goals of an earthen spiritual life. Thus this book is not a collection of 'short stories and poetry' in a traditional 'modernist' sense. Rather, it is a collection of spiritual vignettes, in verse and prose, intended to inspire the reader to reflect on their own life, in search of clues and keys to ways of living it that would render it more interesting, give it depth and lead on toward wisdom's dolmen. If you have read any of the author's other works, you will recognize many of the characters in these pages. Favorite characters from the novel - Ham-Farir: The Faring of Matthew Thorin Dier (2008) - you will find depicted here in other life-situations. Many of the characters quoted in either The Fires of Yule (2001) or WellSprings of the Dier (2002) are given voice here, in either poems or in stories, being shown living out the spiritualities bodied forth in those texts.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ INTERNAL","offer_id":52477650764049,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52477651943697,"sku":"NLS9781434387691","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/9781434387691.jpg?v=1759845960"},{"product_id":"heart-hearth-book-montague-whitsel-9781438911984","title":"Heart \u0026 Hearth","description":"This is the story of the loss and reclamation of a house, the story of how one family scattered by a tragic fire reunites 30 years later to once again dwell together in a deep and poetic way. Visitants to the burned-out husk of the house that was once a home-the old Whittier House on Deer Hill-journey through recollections of times before the fire, inspired to build a new home and to re-establish a community around it as the extended family begins to return to the hill. This book is about Life-Together-in-Earth-and-Spirit: how it is found, how it can be lost, and how it may be reclaimed amidst and despite all of the things that can and do happen to us in the course of life. Ultimately, it is a text filled with ruminations on and explorations of the ways in which we dwell together humanely in the Earth. The stories, poetry, and essays herein, set in the imagined landscape of Ross County, Pennsylvania, form a conceptual, spiral labyrinth around the central concepts of Heart and Hearth. As Heart stands for the spiritual and existential center of the person, so Hearth symbolizes the center of the awakened community. These two concepts form the core of the unique life-philosophy illustrated in these pages. Readers of Montague Whitsel's novel Ham-Farir: The Faring of Matthew Thorin Dier (2008) will recognize characters such as Daniel Westforth Whittier, Geoffrey C. Whittier, and Edward Whittier, portrayed here in other contexts. Characters quoted in The Fires of Yule (2001) and Wellsprings of the Deer (2002) may also be found here, living out the distinctive life-philosophy of Deer Hill.
