In Particle Swarm Optimisation: Classical and Quantum Perspectives, the authors introduce their concept of quantum-behaved particles inspired by quantum mechanics, which leads to the quantum-behaved particle swarm optimisation (QPSO) algorithm. This globally convergent algorithm has fewer parameters, a faster convergence rate, and stronger searchability for complex problems. The book presents the concepts of optimisation problems as well as random search methods for optimisation before discussing the principles of the PSO algorithm. Examples illustrate how the PSO algorithm solves optimisation problems. The authors also analyse the reasons behind the shortcomings of the PSO algorithm. Moving on to the QPSO algorithm, the authors give a thorough overview of the literature on QPSO, describe the fundamental model for the QPSO algorithm, and explore applications of the algorithm to solve typical optimisation problems. They also discuss some advanced theoretical topics, including the behaviour of individual particles, global convergence, computational complexity, convergence rate, and parameter selection. The text closes with coverage of several real-world applications, including inverse problems, optimal design of digital filters, economic dispatch problems, biological multiple sequence alignment, and image processing. MATLAB®, Fortran, and C++ source codes for the main algorithms are provided on an accompanying downloadable resources. Helping you numerically solve optimisation problems, this book focuses on the fundamental principles and applications of PSO and QPSO algorithms. The properties of the entropies are analyzed. Subsequently, a related problem is addressed: the computation and investigation of the properties of the entropic risk measure, Entropic Value-at-Risk (EVaR). Next, the book computes and compares entropy values for the one-dimensional distributions of various fractional Gaussian processes. Special attention is then given to fractional Gaussian noise, where the authors conduct a detailed analysis of the properties and asymptotic behavior of Shannon entropy. Additionally, two alternative entropy functionals are introduced which are more suitable for analytical investigation. Furthermore, relative entropy functionals for the sum of two independent Wiener processes with drift are considered, and their minimization and maximization are explored. A similar problem is addressed for a mixed fractional Brownian motion (i.e., the sum of a Wiener process and a fractional Brownian motion) with drift. The entropy minimization problem is reduced to a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind, and its unique solvability is thoroughly investigated. In the final part of the book, the optimization of small deviations for mixed fractional Brownian motion with trend is studied. This problem is closely related to the minimization of relative entropy functionals and is solved using similar techniques and results, which leads to the same class of integral equations. Since solving such equations is challenging due to the presence of an additional singularity in the kernel, efficient numerical methods have been developed to address this difficulty. We will show several approaches to applying the DCM ideas in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) – from a basic idea of controlling the flow by the means of increased diffusion, to the state-of-the-art family of novel, DCM-based turbulence models. The main idea of the methods presented in this book, is to use defect correction in turbulence modelling; additionally, several methods will also be presented, that aim at reducing the time discretization error. Features · Provides a road map, starting from the ideas of minimally invasive controlling of turbulent flows, to the ways of improving the existing regularization techniques with DCM, to the ideas of ‘full defect correction’ in both space and time and, finally, to the more complex embedding of the DCM into turbulence modelling by the ‘correction’ of the whole turbulence model · Can be used for teaching a topics course on a Masters or Ph.D. level. It is even more suitable as a reference for CFD theorists and practitioners, with most of the methods being minimally invasive and, therefore, easy to implement in the existing\/legacy codes · Discusses the current challenges in turbulence modelling with defect correction, showing several possible directions for future developments. Two source codes are provided – one for a regularization technique and another for a novel turbulence model – in order to give an interested researcher a quick start to the topic of DCM in CFD.","brand":"WoB","offers":[{"title":"- \/ - \/ -","offer_id":51599485763857,"sku":"","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ GARDNERS","offer_id":51599485927697,"sku":"NGR9781032410432","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false},{"title":"GB \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":52589228523793,"sku":"NLS9781032410432","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true},{"title":"US \/ NEW \/ INGRAM","offer_id":53251653173521,"sku":"NIN9781032410432","price":0.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0784\/4072\/6801\/files\/1032410434.jpg?v=1751333562"},{"product_id":"mathematics-at-the-meridian-book-raymond-flood-9780367362720","title":"Mathematics at the Meridian","description":"Greenwich has been a centre for scientific computing since the foundation of the Royal Observatory in 1675. The book focuses on computational engineering with the objective of helping engineering students improve their numerical problem-solving skills. The book cuts a middle path between undergraduate texts that simply focus on programming and advanced mathematical texts that skip over foundational concepts, feature cryptic mathematical expressions, and do not provide sufficient support for novices. Although this book covers some advanced topics, readers do not need prior computer programming experience or an advanced mathematical background. Instead, the focus is on learning how to leverage the computer and software environment to do the hard work. The problem areas discussed are related to data-driven engineering, statistics, linear algebra, and numerical methods. Some example problems discussed touch on robotics, control systems, and machine learning. This second edition includes several corrections, additions, and new exercises across all chapters. The linear algebra chapter is reorganized with the least squares regression, eigenvalue, SVD, and PCA material separated into their own chapters. Additional content was also added on the Cholesky decomposition of positive definite matrices, numerical stability, and applications of the orthogonal QR and SVD matrix decompositions in rectangular systems of equations. A new chapter provides detailed reference material seldom found in undergraduate textbooks, describing modern orthogonal matrix factorization algorithms with source code implementations of QR decomposition, eigendecomposition with the QR and Francis (implicitly shifted QR) algorithms, and the singular value decomposition.
