Rachel Kerr Johnson's lifetime collection of letters offers the perspective of a 19th-century woman, wife, mother and American abroad. They portray the observations and feelings of a woman who spent more than 20 years travelling in India with her missionary husband and their children.

Rachel Kerr Johnson's great-granddaughter is Barbara Mitchell Tull. She is the organizer of Delaware (Ohio) Home Sharing and the author of Ohio Wesleyan University: 150 Years of Achievement, a Visual History. Her previous roles include superintendent of the Ohio Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, assistant professor at Ohio Wesleyan University, and communication disorders clinicians.
