American Heartbeat by Mick Brown
Nothing typifies the national pride of the Americans as much as their determination to celebrate in song even the most mundane of their towns and cities. In this book, Mick Brown sets out on a musical journey from coast to coast to find out what such places as Chattanooga Choo-Choo, Memphis, Phoenix, El Paso, Nashville and St Louis are really like and how the myth that we are so familiar with differs from the reality. He also explores what they tell us about America today. Mick Brown is a journalist and author of "Richard Branson: a Biography".
Mick Brown was born in London in 1950 and has interviewed Salvador Dali, the Rolling Stones, James Brown, Don DeLillo, Richard Ford, Ravi Shankar, and the Dalai Lama, and has written several books as well on Richard Branson, the movie Performance, and a guide to America through pop songs. His interview with Spector--the first in twenty-five years--was published in The Telegraph in England only days before Lana Clarkson was found dead in his castle in Los Angeles.
