Private investigator Cody Britto is reluctant to take another case in the small, Shenandoah Valley city of Ewington, Virginia. His previous case there, where he helped to discover who stuffed a baby's body in the wall of a house in the 1940s, has certainly improved his professional standing. His PI business is in demand, and his bank account isn't complaining.

The down-on-his-luck, possible client is a local auto mechanic, Justin Stirling, who wants Cody to find Julia Alder, the woman, who, 30-some years before, skipped out on their elopement.
