The Arabian Horse by Rosemary Archer

The Arabian, one of the oldest pure breeds, was predominant in founding the thoroughbred, and there are few breeds today which do not contain Arab blood in varying degrees. An ever-increasing number of people are appreciating the Arabian qualities of endurance, stamina, versatility, beauty, speed and a closeness to humans that is rooted in the breed's tough desert origins - qualities that make up the ideal all-round performance and pleasure horse. The author traces the history and development of the breed from the desert to its worldwide role today, gives practical advice on keeping Arabians, comments on breeding, and looks at the Arabian's performance in competition and the show ring.
Rosemary Archer has ridden, bred and shown Arabians since 1947. An Arab Horse Society judge and council member for over forty-five years, she is now a governor of the society. She is past editor of The Arab Horse Society News, co-author of The Crabbet Arabian Stud: Its History and Influence and co-editor of Lady Anne Blunt: Journals and Correspondence. Rosemary Archer is the author of The Arabian Horse in the Allen Breed Series, and of The Versatile Arabian Horse.
