Baby Games by Elaine Martin

A bold expression of humanity. The story of a young black man trying to make it in America. Grasping his thoughts of survival as they come and go.

There was a time when I was struggling in almost every area of my life but I knew one thing. No matter how low I was, I was going to come up. I spent a lot of my free time reading. Anything positive, anything about growth, anything that could help me survive.

With too many things on my mind and no real outlet to express myself I started writing. It wasn't supposed to be anything special but after a few full notebooks I figured I would write a book.

I'm grateful I'm not in that space anymore. This book isn't only for people in that level of life, but I knew when I was there. I needed things like this just to gas my mind up to make it through the next hour.

I don't write to become some great figure of literature, I write because when I can sort my mind out I feel like a better person. Who you are, who you were, and who are you becoming is a journey we all share. I figured it was time I shared these poems publicly.
