Class 66/0 by Mark Pike
In the mid to late 2000s, most of the locos in use with Freightliner and EWS were Class 66s and were tried and tested as reliable locos. Direct Rail Services (DRS) closely followed EWS & Freightliner and very soon they ordered a small batch of 10 locos initially, but a couple more subsequent batches brought the total to 34. However, DRS later sold the first 20 locos to GBRF and Freightliner and were left with just 14 locos, which they operate to date. The Class 66/3 only totaled five locos and lasted only a short while from 2008-10, when these five were taken on by DRS. The Class 66/8s also only number five locos, and they supplement the operator's Class 70s on various work around the UK, although the Class 66/8s are generally to be found in the south of England. Most of these locos have now been in service for many years and have proved very reliable and capable locos. This volume takes a look at the Fastline/DRS/Colas operated Class 66/3/4/8 locos that were delivered during the mid to late 2000s and covers the locos from their early days up to the present at various locations around the UK.In the mid to late 2000s, most of the locos in use with Freightliner and EWS were Class 66s and were tried and tested as reliable locos.
